TaylorMade R11

TaylorMade R11The TaylorMade R11 is a remarkable driver; highly technical yet beautifully simple. Because of that I was asked to make a  TaylorMade R11 review covering its amazing features and benefits. You will find out how you can fine tune it with three different settings in order to get more loft, more distance and more direction. You will also read what the pros think as well as amateurs like you and me.

The first thing is to find your ideal launch angle  so you will need the TaylorMade R11 loft adjustment feature which uses their unique Flight Control Technology (FCT). This allows you to increase or decrease the launch angle and also controls the backspin by plus or minus 1,000 rpm.

Making the adjustments is a matter of unscrewing the bottom screw with the wrench provided and withdrawing the shaft from the club head. You then rotate the shaft and re-insert it into the head lining up the markings to your desired position. The adjustments can be made in half degree increments so you can play with it until you find the most beneficial loft and backspin for you.

You see that red triangular button in the picture up there on the left? That is on the bottom of the TaylorMade R11 head and is what controls the angle of the face. It is called an Adjustable Sole Plate (ASP). By unscrewing this plate you can open or close the face by 2 degrees either way. As you unscrew the plate in naturally pops up and you then line up the desired position with the arrow and screw in back down. There is a distinctive click when it is tightened so there is no fear of it coming loose or you over tightening it.

The third adjustment controls the draw by use of weights. There are two weights which fit into the heel and toe of the club. For a more neutral draw leave the heavier weight in the toe and the lighter one in the heel which is how the TaylorMade R11 come to you. But if you like a little more draw you simply swap these two around with what TaylorMade like to term their Movable Weight Technology or TaylorMade R11 MWT.

What The Pros Are Saying

Justin Rose: ” The driver looks incredible. and once we tuned it, the distance gained just blew me away” Dustin Johnson

“I have never been so dialed on the tee” said Dustin Johnson. “The fitting was quick and simple: three steps and the R11 was totally customized to my swing. I can’t wait to bring  this driver out on Tour”

As you might expect from a new driver, the aerodynamics have been designed for minimum drag and maximum speed while the white crown and black club face  is very helpful for aiming.

We Have Not Heard A Bad  Word From The Amateurs Either

TaylorMade R11 Adjustments“You will turn a lot of heads with this bad boy and make all of your buddies jealous” was one comment I read and “It felt like the ball just jumped off the face of the club.” was another.

One tip was to “…change the weights from 1 gram on the heel and 10gram on the toe. It will give you a perfect power fade shots.”

Golfers who have newer drivers may not notice a huge difference in the distance and control but if you are like a lot of people and have not changed in a few years the difference is dramatic. Unlike the  Taylormade Burner Superfast, this is like having a custom built driver specifically designed to suit your swing. The finer you tune it, the further you will hit the golf ball.

In the video below Brad Syslo demonstrates the adjustments of the R11 in detail.

Obviously a technologically advanced driver like this is not cheap and therefore is not for everyone. Even a preowned Taylomade R11  isn’t cheap but if you love your game and take it seriously, the Taylomade R11 is worth every cent.
